If an EMP strikes there will likely be little or no warning.

An electromagnetic pulse may only be a minor inconvenience for a few or it literally may destroy our civilization.  There is much conjecture about possible outcomes but there is the distinct possibility that the electrical grid will be completely down for an extended period of time.  This means your cash will become worthless, no food will be available for purchase, water will stop pumping to your home, electric lights, heating and air conditioning no longer work, there is no fuel for your car, your car's electronics are likely fried, no television, limited or no radio, no access to critical medications and the resulting lawlessness of people who are without will be staggering.

For what length of time should you prepare?
The notion of preparing for months or even a period longer than a year is daunting to even the most hardy.  Pick a number of days or weeks first as a goal and get those supplies secured.  Then begin to look out to a longer period to see how you may solidify your preparations.
